The lack of a realistic teaching model for lower leg lymphoedema has led to a unique collaboration between Technovent Ltd, Macmillan Cancer Support and the South Wales Cancer Network, resulting in the creation of the first realistic lymphoedema leg model in the UK.
The model is designed to represent the lower leg of a patient with lymphoedema. It consists of a hollow core to reduce the weight, an inner gel coating to represent the patient’s tissues, and a silicone elastomer skin that is coloured and textured to appear and react as lifelike as possible.
The model has specific areas mimicking what is seen in lymphoedema including, pitting, cellulitis, cobbling, swelling and tissue folds. The foot is connected via a universal joint, and the toes are separate allowing the instruction of individual digit bandaging.
